This… this defies imagination. There are six pages of people laughing at this poor guy. At least he’s a good sport about it!

Based on the time stamps, I suspect this is fake. Anyone want to argue the probabilities that it is legit?
Classic. And, yes, there are people that clueless out there.
But I agree with the people who take the post seriously also, and argue that a lot of people don’t even know what a library is these days. I’m sure a ton of people in my city have never been to a library outside of their school, since the public libraries are few and all located downtown (hell, I’ve only gone a handful of times). So these people probably think, “I can’t go back to my grade school to check out a book, so where could I find one cheap?”
Oh, who am I kidding…they don’t read anyway!
*sigh* confession time: I’m such a technophile, that until I read the second post, I was like, “Wow, that’s a great idea, we should write a program to do that!”.
In my defense, I was envisioning a massive internet library (that might, upon reflection, be similar to Google Books, and we know how that turned out).
Anyways, the dude confesses that it was fake on around page 9.
I’d go to the library more often if the ones around here had the kind of books I was looking for. Thirty-year-old SF or new schlock SF, that’s it. Heck, I work at a school–I ate in a library today–but I’ve never checked out a book from there. School libraries (and I suspect all libraries) are under funded. Add to that the fact that the people buying the books are usually trying to fill quotas and update irrelevant information.
A Netflix-size library isn’t a terrible idea.
Anyone use library exchange programs? How far-reaching are those?
@Scott,
Yeah, us spec fic guys are outta luck. Of course, I can’t remember the last time I went to a library except for research. I’m one of those snobs who likes to own their books.
