This is a page where I’ll be storing interesting links about the L Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest. I obsess you progress!
| Official sites | |
| Writers of the Future | Though some of the information is out of date, you simply can’t beat going to the source. |
| The WotF blog | This is the blog where contest administrator Joni Lebaqui posts the winners, as well as tips and tricks from the pros. |
| The WotF Forums | Why are they sites not all on the same domain? Yo, Galaxy Press, hire a web designer! Anyways, these forums are interesting chiefly because pros like K D Wentworth, Tim Powers, and Kevin J Anderson occasionally drop by. |
| The WotF SFF.NET forum | Betcha didn’t know about this one, did ya? This is the “not-so-secret” forum which belongs to chief judge K D Wentworth. She actually likes it when you comment here. Another secret! The link above is actually for the RSS feed to the forum, so you can subscribe to it via feed readers. |
| Awards and Winners Page | The most comprehensive list I’ve seen of winners, finalists, and judges. |
| Essays | |
| Writers of the Future on Wikipedia | Article contains a list of notable winners |
| Passed on (Sort Of) By Amy Casil Sterling | This article was highly inspirational for me when I first started submitting. The story of a hard working writer evolving into a writers of the future winner. |
| Jerry Pournelle on WotF | The Workshop from the perspective of Jerry Pournelle, one of the judges. He also goes into a fair amount of detail about L. Ron Hubbard’s history as a writer as pertains to the contest, and offers some thoughts on its connections (or lack thereof) to Scientology. |
| John Scalzi on WotF | John Scalzi’s thoughts on the contest. Interesting because quite a few winners weigh in with their thoughts in the comments, Jay Lake among them. |
| Interview with Dave Wolverton | This is an interview with some great questions, including how the winners/finalists are paid for their contributions. Taken when Dave was the coordinating judge. |
| The Workshop | Vol. | |
| Sarah L Edwards | XXIV | Sarah L Edwards covers the whole workshop in one post! |
| Pat Lundrigan | XXIV | Pat Lundrigan writes a series of posts, the first of which can be found at the link to your left, which covers the whole workshop day-by-day, except, mysteriously, day 4. |
| Stephen Kotowych | XXIII | Canadian Science Fiction author, Stephen Kotowych won the Grand Prize for that year, and was also an Aurora Finalist. |
| Ken Scholes | XXI | Ken Scholes talks about how Writers of the Future helped him to eventually land a book contract at Del Rey |
| Eric James Stone | XXI | Eric James Stone’s entry stands out because of the huge amount of detail he records. Lots and lots of tips on winning the contest here. |
| Luc Reid | XX | Luc Reid is the founded of the Codex Writing Group to which I belong. Lots of pictures and an inviting writing style. |
| Ron Collins | XV | Ron Collins attended WotF in 98, which would make him WotF 15. He write about the (lack of a) connection between WotF and Scientology. |
| Dave L. Felts | XIII | Webmaster of SFReader, Dave attended WotF XIII |
